Ben Gibbard is the lead singer, principal songwriter,
and founding member of the Seattle based quartet Death
Cab for Cutie. Formed in 1998, Death Cab released five
critically acclaimed albums on independent label Barsuk
before signing to Atlantic Records in 2003. Their major
label debut, Plans, was released in August of 2005. The
album has been certified gold in the US and Canada, garnered
three Grammy Award Nominations for "Best Alternative
Music Album," "Best Pop Performance By A Duo
Or Group With Vocal," and "Best Long Form Music
Video" and landed Death Cab for Cutie a performance
on Saturday Night Live.
The debut album by Ben's side project, The Postal Service,
has also been certified Gold in the US and is the second
best-selling album in the Sub Pop Records 20 year history
(the first being Nirvana's Bleach). Over the years has
collaborated with a number of artists including Jenny
Lewis of Rilo Kiley, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, and
Feist. |
