Taken By Trees - Open Field
Everything is stripped-back.
It doesn’t mean the music isn’t beautiful. Christ, no. It doesn’t mean the music isn’t
intricate, delicately layered as if weaving with gossamer thread; the tinkling of a
mandolin here, the feral strum of a vibraphone there. Open Field is full of hidden delight
droll sometimes, almost unbearably frail and fragile in others (listen too hard and you
fear the music might break)...and then, suddenly, in a fully orchestrated, coquettish cover
of Camera Obscura’s ‘Lost And Found’, Victoria Bergsman shows fully her ability to
craft a timeless, melting pop gem the equal of Colin Blunstone or Shadow Morton.
